Independent Component 2


Literal
I, Darien Pasigan, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.” 
I completed 30 hours of my service learning at LAC-USC Women’s and Children’s Hospital. I spent it learning how the nurses go about doing their job and their daily tasks.
Interpretive
This represents 30 hours of work because I have been assisting nurses in the hospital by doing what I can given the certain amount of tasks I was capable of doing. This has helped me to better understand the daily schedule and tasks the nurses deal with everyday with their patients.
Applied
This component helped me answer my EQ because I am trying to figure out what is most important in being a Registered Nurse. By being able to do hours at this hospital it has provided me with a different look of things given the different hospital setting. It also helped me strengthen my answers by experiencing what a nurse’s regular schedule is like, how they communicate with the patients, and the different hospital setting it had.

(1) What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
                Something regarding animation, like cartoon animation or video game design.
                What feedback did you offer when you heard the topic ideas?
I told her that their good project ideas and that she should pick something she is interested in or has passion for. That doing a senior project you like and are interested in will not only make senior year easier and fun.
(2) What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning (working with an expert) which is due prior to senior year starting?  Note: They also have to complete the 50 hours during the school year.
                I dont know I’m not quite sure yet, I’m pretty scared cause I haven’t found any yet or I don’t know where to look.
                What feedback did you offer them in response?
   She should contact different art schools or art classes and talk to the teachers regarding their senior project. She should also contact Nikki because she’s doing animation and she could help you regarding service learning. Don’t be scared about not finding any because the senior teachers are really helpful and are willing to do their best to help.
(3) What do you hope to see or expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?
Not much actually, I don’t really look for any specific things when I watching presentations.
Idk, watch for professionalism, something interesting. Entice liking
                What suggestions did give them regarding how they should approach watching the 2 hour presentations?  
         They should watch and listen to how the students went about on obtaining service learning, independent component, etc.
(4) What questions do they have about senior project?  What additional recommendations would you give the 2013 student about senior project?  Be specific and note what you told them.

  • Answer 3 = Great communication skills are necessary for any nurse.
  • Evidence = 
    • Being prepared to know what you are going to say to the patients or physician will allow the nurse to feel on tasks and have the right information for when patients ask questions
    • Good communication can be particularly helpful when patients complain because the nurses are the ones that see them the most compared to physicians. Patients feel nurses are most approachable than doctors.
    • Communication skills will help develop stronger relationships between patients and health care unit.
