Self Reflection

                (1)   How do you think you are doing so far in your senior project and why?  AE, P, AP, CR, or NC
I think I have been doing fairly well on my senior project, although I could be doing better. I feel I deserve a P because I have done everything asked at a Proficient level. I understand I have yet to turn in my second interview, but I have done all that I can to try and get an interview at the convalescent home I am currently volunteering at; and due to the confidentially code and RN’s  very flexible schedule it makes it very hard to try and get one.

(2) What one thing do you think you have done well on and why?
I think that I’ve done well on is improving the improving the types of research I get for my research checks. I now understand the basics to becoming a nurse and the qualities a nurse must have. I have also focused more on what I need to learn more on and where I need to go on my project; and I feel the only way on obtaining the knowledge I seek is through service learning.

(3) What is one thing you would like to improve on and why?
One thing that I would like to improve more on is finding my service learning. I have not yet been able to find service learning due to ride issues on being able to get to and from there and also most hospitals I have tried said they are not able to take me in. I am still trying to look for hospitals and hopefully by next week I should have one.

Science Fair Proposal

             1. What is your hypothesis?

If a teenagers BMI (Body Mass Index) is low, then the difference between their resting and active heart rate will be low as well.

2. Identify the dependent (produced), independent (manipulated) and control variables in your hypothesis.
Dependent- Difference between rising heart rate to active heart rate
Independent- BMI
Control variables- Teenagers 14-18 years old

3. What is the connection between your science fair project and your senior project EQ?

The connection between my science fair project and senior project is that they both consist of obtaining a individuals pulse rate just as a nurse checks their patients pulse rate.

4. How will you perform the experiment?  Include the equipment you plan on using.
·         I will perform my experiment with the help of 40 volunteers. 40 being students 9-12 ( 10 from 9th, 10 from 10th, 10 from 11th, 10 from 12th)
·         I will then gather all the students according to grade level, and have them sit comfortably for 5 minutes. I will measure their pulse rate and record the data.
·         After obtaining their resting heart rate, I will have them do a intensive amount of sit ups they can within a minute. I will then obtain their active heart rate and record the data.

       5. Which category will your project be listed under?

        Physiology

What I've Learned So Far

      1) What have you learned how to do since you started working on your senior project?

I learned about the different nursing programs and schools (BSN, ADN, and a diploma from a nursing program) one must take in order to obtain their Nursing license. Once you obtain the title of a RN you are open to a wide array of different nursing fields that come with different specializations and responsibilities. Becoming a nurse can be a life changing decision because you are sacrificing both your own time and well benefit to help change or make a impact in a patient’s life. You have to be very flexible with your schedule, caring, hard working, patient, persevering, and compassionate on working with your patients.

2) Post evidence of this accomplishment.  It can be in the form of a picture, video, document, etc..
This is where I do my service learning
Rowland Convalescent Hospital

3) What research helped you to do this and how?*

Both my interviewee and the article helped me better understand the basics on becoming a RN and the rewards that it comes with. My Interviewee told me that nursing comes from the heart and that patients can tell right through your actions to tell if you’re really concerned or just doing the job because of the pay.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

(1)   Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.
For my independent study component I plan on incorporating it with my service learning.
(2)   Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.
I think by doing my independent component with my service learning, it will not only help me achieve the hours needed but it will also give me more time to spend with my service learner to acquire the knowledge I need.
(3)   How does your independent study component relate to your EQ?
My independent study component relates to my EQ because it will help me understand what is important in being a RN by watching and learning up close and personal on what they do.
